The fact that this happened a day after the race, leads me to believe that F1 is pro ferrari, I suspect that ferrari whined.
Go Lewis, let em eat some dust.

The FIA’s International Court of Appeal has thrown out McLaren’s case against Lewis Hamilton’s recent Belgian Grand Prix penalty on the grounds that their appeal was inadmissible.

Hamilton had 25 seconds added to his Spa race time for gaining an advantage by cutting a chicane whilst fighting Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen for the lead. This was given in place of a drive-through penalty, as the incident occurred late in the race, and drive-throughs are not susceptible to appeal under the International Sporting Code.

McLaren had appealed the stewards' decision, which saw Hamilton drop from first to third in the Belgian results, on the grounds that their driver had relinquished the lead back to Raikkonen immediately following the incident in order to negate any advantage. They also cited the fact that on two occasions race control had told the team that Hamilton’s conduct appeared to be within the rules.

However, the Court rejected McLaren’s right to appeal, citing Paragraph 5 of Article 152 of the International Sporting Code, which states: “Penalties of driving through or stopping in pit lanes together with certain penalties specified in FIA Championship regulations where this is expressly stated, are not susceptible to appeal.”

The Court's decision means Hamilton’s championship lead remains at just a single point over Ferrari’s Felipe Massa, who inherited the victory at Spa.

The International Court of Appeal's decision in full:
At the Grand Prix of Belgium, run on 7 September 2008, and counting towards the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship, the Stewards of the meeting imposed a drive-through penalty upon the driver of car No. 22, Lewis Hamilton, for a breach of Article 30.3 (a) of the 2008 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations and Appendix L, Chapter 4, Article 2 (g) of the International Sporting Code.

As the drive-through penalty was imposed at the end of the race, 25 seconds were added to the driver’s elapsed race time in accordance with Article 16.3 of the FIA 2008 Formula One Sporting Regulations.

Article 152 of the International Sporting Code states that drive-through penalties are “not susceptible to appeal”.

The competitor Vodafone McLaren Mercedes appealed the Steward’s decision before the International Court of Appeal in a hearing in Paris on September 22nd.

Having heard the explanations of the parties the Court has concluded that the appeal is inadmissible.

The International Court of Appeal was presided over by Mr Philippe NARMINO (Monaco), elected President, and composed of Mr Xavier CONESA (Spain), Mr Harry DUIJM (Netherlands), Mr Thierry JULLIARD (Switzerland) and Mr Erich SEDELMAYER (Austria).

And I thought I saw it all after Webber's crash after qualifying on Saturday. Are these drivers having mental fatigue already? And Raikkonen what maturity not to have taken a swing ( i was telling my wife if Hamilton ran into the back of Danica Patrick, she would of decked Hamilton right their on the track (good thing she races IRL.. LOL) and then Hamilton brushing off Raikkonen as Raikkonen was telling him there is a stop light at the pit exit.. Hamilton should have been on his knees apologizing...Hamilton thinks he is the hottest racer out their and look where it got him... I just read Hamilton gets fined 10 positions at France (a heavy penalty for his stupidity).. anyway...
And then Kubica...what was going in his head everytime he approached the area that almost killed him....congrats to Kubica and BMW (my fantasy league F1 driver) and his 1st F-1 win.. I am so glad he won..if anyone deserved it more it was Kubica.. and finally congrats to Massa (my other driver) for pit crew problems and still finishing 5th... it was an exciting race...can't wait for France...

Another note: For all you who upload to YouTube...there is another site called "Vimeo.com"... Vimeo offers HD & SD uploads and the SD uploads are far better quality than YouTube.... Some of you saw my Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach footage and now you can view it in HD on my Vimeo site... what a difference...here's the site: www.vimeo.com/jimmyalioto

FIA President Max Mosley is often accused of playing political games in Formula 1 because he cannot play in real politics. Mosley was made for politics. His father Sir Oswald Mosley was a brilliant man in many ways and Max inherited many of his talents. Alas, Sir Oswald's involvement with the British Union of Fascists in the 1930s ruined his political career and turned the name Mosley into electoral poison. That taint endures, as was proven a few weeks ago when 10 historians were asked by the BBC History Magazine to compile a list of the 10 "worst" Britons of the last 1000 years, picking one Briton from each century. Mosley was chosen for the period 1900 to 2000 and Professor Joanna Bourke of London University's Birkbeck College said that Mosley continued to have "a pernicious impact on our society" as an inspiration for extreme nationalist groups in the UK.

There has already been widespread speculation that Schumacher could retire at the end of the 2006 season if Ferrari’s performance does not improve, but now the German has given the media another possibility to consider - a move to a rival team.

"I said that at mid-season I will decide if I want to go on or not go on, and 99 percent I do this with Ferrari if I go on, I should say 99.9,” Shummy told the press at Ferrari’s annual ski meeting.

In the past Schumacher has always pledged his future to the Italian team and he maintained that his comments were not an indication of any specific desire to leave Ferrari, but rather the result of nothing in life being certain.

Shummy said:
“Who can look so far in advance, and who can tell what is going to happen, particularly in our sport where things sometimes move rather quickly?” he added. “And as I said, I don't want to lie and therefore I am saying the truth and 99 percent that is what it is and then we will see."

Schumacher, at age 37 the oldest driver on the grid, joined Ferrari in 1996, at which time they had not won a drivers’ title in almost 20 years.

"Räikkönen retired three times while leading the race, but it was never down to engine problems. Losing the constructors' championship was down to Montoya who in my opinion should have brought home more points win the championship," Illien told Autosprint.

Motorsport world mourns Duckworth.
Tue 20 Dec, 9:50 AM

One of the most influential men in modern motorsport, Keith Duckworth, has died at the age of 72, leaving behind a legacy that covers the sport from top to bottom.

Although best known for his part in reshaping Formula One with the first Cosworth engine, Duckworth's impact on the sport ran far deeper, as Cosworth - the company he founded with fellow engineer Mike Costin - became synonymous with engines that were competitive both on track and on the price list.

Duckworth's introduction to the motorsport industry came when he accepted the role of transmission engineer at the fertile breeding ground of Lotus Cars, his first job after completing his studies at Imperial College in London. Having served a year's 'apprenticeship' under the guidance of Colin Chapman's active imagination, the Lancastrian joined forces with fellow Lotus employee Costin to work on ideas for Ford's road car engines, and Cosworth - the name derived from the surnames of the two founders - was born.

Despite the work the company initially, and subsequently, carried out, it is the three-litre F1 V8 - which won on debut and continued to prove successful in a variety of guises over the next 20+ years - for which Duckworth will be best remembered.

With Ford looking to improve its image through motorsport, and with the late Walter Hayes securing a £100,000 budget to invest in a Cosworth-designed powerplant, Duckworth and Costin set about developing two motors - a 1.6-litre unit for F2 and the F1 V8. Duckworth was credited with the design of both engines - a role Hayes later described as helping 'establish this country - in an international fashion, not a silly flag-waving fashion - as the place you go to have motor racing cars and engines made'.

The two engines would go on to share legendary status, with the FVA proving successful in F2 and the DFV - standing for Double Four Valve - immediately establishing its reputation by won on debut in the hands of Jim Clark and Lotus at the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix. Not only did its instant competitiveness prove attractive, so too did the asking price, and the DFV would provide a cornerstone for some of Britain's most ambitious small teams, including Brabham and Williams, to get a foothold on the F1 ladder.

The engine, with occasional tweaks, carried on winning races until 1982, eventually settling for a tally of 154 successes before its retirement was effectively enforced by the turbo era. However, while the Cosworth name was gradually overwhelmed in F1, it continued to race strongly, as the DFX, in the US Indycar series, while the ideas were also used successful in Ford's rally programme, with the BDA unit. The company not only developed technology, however, but also churned out talented individuals such as Mario Ilien, who would go on to found Ilmor Engineering.

Duckworth and Costin eventually sold Cosworth, initially to United Engineering Industries, and the company has changed hands several times since, eventually ending up as part of the Audi and Ford empires, before almost being dragged down by the Blue Oval's disappointing involvement with the Jaguar Racing F1 team. Fortunately, Champ Car owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Gerald Forsythe saw the benefit of buying the company, and now run Cosworth units exclusively in the US series.

In recent years, the Cosworth name has returned to Formula One circles - notably helping out another much-loved minnow, Minardi - but it is perhaps apt that Duckworth passes knowing that the company he helped found will return in partnership with Williams in 2006.

As it is, the season is already unusual without Melbourne opening it.. I mean, isn't winning Australia a jinx? perhaps this might actually break that spell?

"A few laps more in Brazil and they break the engine there and we have more points.

"But they can change now and it will be difficult for us to beat them in the race even if they start 11th."

Alonso claims that had the engine failures happened during the races both he and Renault could have wrapped up their respective championship titles long ago.

So continues the English driver's campaign to wiggle out of his 2006 contract and stay at Honda co-owned BAR next year. If he does stay, Barrichello - a six season Ferrari veteran - would be his teammate. If Sir Frank Williams wins in hauling the 25-year-old to Grove, he'll team up next to Australia's Webber. ''In my opinion, Rubens (would be) the one able to have a bigger input on the development of the team,'' Button told formula1.com. ''And in general it is always preferable to have two drivers that have the ability to win. ''I would find it very annoying to have a teammate who is one second slower than myself.'' Likewise, BAR - with works Honda power - is a better bet than 'privateer team' Williams, Jenson Button claimed. ''With BMW gone,'' JB remarked, ''Williams will (have) an engine supplier that has a big history in F1 but a rather uncertain future. And at the end it is my career that has priority for me. ''The situation at Williams has changed from a potential winning team to a question mark.''

All things considered, it is clear that Button's position is legally weak and all the current noise may simply be to test the resolve of Williams. Sir Frank Williams gave a very clear response in Hungary to Button's initial remarks about not wanting to join the team and there will, no doubt, be some reaction to the talk of Button sitting out the 2006 season.

The next step for Button would be to make Williams a financial offer to try to get the team to agree to release him. That would cost a great deal of money because there is no obvious alternative to Jenson. The other option is to accept that a deal is a deal and to drive for Williams in 2006 and 2007.

What is most interesting in all of this are the numbers involved. We believe that Button's deal with Williams will pay him in the region of $16m for a two year contract. That is a decent sum of money for a man who has yet to win a Grand Prix but the whisper from BAR Honda is that the team is willing to sign Jenson for five years and pay him $88m in the course of that deal.

As requested here is how the story goes....

Bernie sold 75% of SLEC to Kirch. Kirch went bankrupt and the banks took on the debt. He saw a good opportunity to buy back the sport, and make everyone involved an extra $4 billion. In order to do this, he needed to convince the bankers, and the public even, that the sport was in a horrible condition, without actually damaging. Enter Ferrari. Etner GPWC. Ferrari holds all of the cards in Formula 1. Without Ferrari, F1 would not exist (remember back in the day when they were suspected of cheating Max was afraid to call Bernie and let him know he would no longer have a sport). Bernie and Montezemelo are very old friends. Montezemelo convinced the other manufacturers to set up a breakaway series. Bernie himself played a role. Remember way back when.... Minardi needed a few million to be able to finish the season. Bernie made an "investment" in the team to get them on the grid. However, this "investment" was construed by the bankers to mean... "The GPWC is going to happen... Bernie just made an investment in Minardi guaranteeing himself a spot in the GPWC when F1 goes under." Keep in mind, Ecclestone also registered a new name for a "rival" series (consequently preventing a new motorcyle series from taking that name). The public was shocked, and to this day, people believe it will happen. Wrong. Exit Ferrari. With Ferrari now siding with Bernie and the manufacturers holding their own, the sport appears to be entering a state of turmoil. How can their be a true breakaway series without Ferrari? Who will watch F1 without manufacturers to compete agains them? This is the thought running through the bankers minds. Enter the "tyre fiasco". Bernie did not want this to happen, however, when it became inevitable, he saw the advantage, and took it. The public is now saying that the sport is permanently damaged. The bankers have taken note. After all... they are bankers... they don't want their shares to be worthless. What Mr. Ecclestone took advantage of was the press. People quote unquote "hate" the sport-- yet they can't stop talking about it. No one is going to boycott a GP. In fact, there is a larger interest in F1 than ever before. It still appears to be going to shit, which the bankers don't like. Bernie is going to come in and buy back their shares for as little as he can, sell off a stake to the manufacturers. 2008: Enter a new era of F1.

Gordon Murray, designer of the McLaren MB 4/4 that was driven by Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost, winning a record 15 of 16 races in 1988. Designer of the Brabham BT47 "fan car", the BT55 which pioneered the 30 degree reclining driver position, the BT52 which had a fluid filled switch that lowered the car to the ground from the mandated 2 inch ride height rule after the first lap to take advantage of the ground effects, or the BT46 "surface cooling" car. Most recently, the designer of the McLaren F1 road car and the Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR.
Gordon Murray was the featured speaker at Pasadena's Art Center College of Design yesterday. He was introduced onstage by comedian Jay Leno who claims to be his biggest fan and plans to buy every single car that he designs.
I spoke with him briefly and shook his hand before he went on stage. He gave a 90 minute presentation of his career, his philosophy, some insight on the racing world then and now. Brilliant man and truly inspiring. He admits to aspiring to be a driver first and a designer second, but didn't have the genes to be a driver. He used race team philosophy to develop his road cars. Perhaps most surprising was his admonishment of F1 and how he is trying very hard to disassociate himself from the circus.
Certainly one of highlights of my automotive life. I'll post pictures when I get home tonight.

US GP spectators get second chance

The Champ Car World Series has always been a series about its fans, and in support of the international open-wheel racing community, the organizers of the Champ Car Grand Prix of Cleveland Presented by U.S. Bank and Champ Car officials have announced that tickets for Sunday's Formula 1 United States Grand Prix will be honored on June 26.

Open-wheel racing fans will be able to see the 750-horsepower Champ Car's battle on the temporary circuit constructed in Downtown Cleveland at Burke Lakefront Airport as the headliners of a full day of racing.

Joining the Champ Cars will be the Toyota Atlantic Championship Presented by Yokohama, the Speed World Challenge GT cars and the Formula Ford 2000 series.

"The Michelin teams deeply regret the position that they have been put in today and would like to apologise to all the spectators, TV viewers, Formula One fans and sponsors for not being able to take part in today's USA Grand Prix.

Following Ralf Schumacher's accident on Friday morning, we were advised by Michelin that none of the tyres that were available to the teams could be used unless the vehicle speed in turn 13 was reduced. Without this Michelin did not consider the tyre to be safe to be used for the race.

All the teams are confident in Michelin and trust their advice as we know they are competent and responsible and their written instruction to us not to race unless changes to the circuit were made was accepted.

After final data from Michelin became available at 06.30 on Sunday morning it became clear that Michelin were not able to guarantee the safety of the drivers. Numerous discussions and meetings took place to find a safe solution to the problem. Every possibility for the race to go ahead in a safe manner was explored. The only practical solution was for a chicane to be installed prior to Turn 13 and nine of the teams were prepared to run under these conditions even forgoing championship points or by allowing non-Michelin teams to take top positions on the grid.

Unfortunately all proposals were rejected by the FIA. Safety is always the first concern of any team and the FIA. Regrettably the teams were obliged to follow Michelin's requirements not to race. We are totally aware that the USA is an important market for Formula One and there is an obligation for Formula One to promote itself in a positive and professional manner. It is sad that we couldn't showcase Formula One in the manner we would have liked today."

The easy guess is Schumacher and Ferrari, but alot has changed. Honda has a big stake in BAR now, and Button was great last year. Montoya at McLaren may push Kimi, and Montoya is quick on his own. Williams finally showing some promise by winning Brazil. Renault did well last season too and Alonso is going places.

So. Any opinions?

The fact that the car looked a lot like Senna's with Ralf's head kinda cocked was also a bit too uncomfortable to watch. It's funny how some people really want to see a crash and then it happens and it is far from fun.

The other proposals all seem to point toward a major effort to control cost's that run in the Billions. I really hope they run most of these thru, as it opens the door for closer competition, more teams, and an entry for possible American drivers agian. I've found for the last couple of season's that the F3000 races are frequently more entertaining than the F1 races..Sad but true. Lets hope Max can follow thru...
